FAQ'S
"What can I put out for recycling?" The categories of waste that we accept are:
- Paper. All types including directories, brochures, envelopes with windows. All paper must be bagged and, if left on the public highway, sealed.
- Cardboard. Small pieces should be bagged and large pieces bundled or boxed.
- Polythene. Polythene bags and polythene packaging should be bagged and sealed.
- Soft plastics. (PET and HTPE) This category includes plastic drinks bottles and milk bottles. These items should be clean and sealed in one of our bags.
- Cans. You can mix aluminium and steel/tin cans in one bag.
"Can I mix the categories?" No. We keep our collection charges low because we ask you to sort your waste prior to collection. If the waste is mixed we have to hand sort the waste at the recycling centre. This is a waste of resources and, if not controlled, would mean higher charges for you, our customers.
"Can I give you polystyrene?" No. Currently there are no commercial recyclers of polystyrene within a reasonable distance of our service areas.
"What about glass collections?" If you are likely to produce at least a wheely bin of glass each month we can arrange a regular collection of glass. Please do not put glass out in bags with our regular collection service as this would be hazardous for our collectors. (We know this sounds obvious but it has happened!)
"Where should I put my bags for collection?" You should place your bags, or boxes of cardboard, on the pavement. If you are unable to do this you must make an arrangement with the collectors to leave your bags in an alternative convenient and visible place.
"When should I put my bags out?" Our collectors start at 6am each morning. We will advise you if your collection is likely to be before you are open. If this is the case you must remember to put your bags out the night before.

"How should I present cardboard for collection?" Do not bag larger pieces of cardboard. Flatten the boxes and stack them in one unflattened box. Attach an empty bag, or sticker, so we know it is for collection. If there is no bag or sticker attached the cardboard will not be collected. The box of cardboard should not weigh more than 15kgs and should not be too large for one person to lift comfortably.

"Can I put out more than 1 bag per week?" Yes. If you are likely to put out more than 10 bags or boxes for any single collection please let us know so we can ensure there is enough space in the collection vehicle.
"Does the bag have to be sealed?" The regulations state that waste must not spill onto the highway. We will supply bag ties on request but string or elastic bands are acceptable.
"What if I have used all the bags before the 6 months is up? No problem. Call our Collections department free on 0808 178 1088, or email alex@biztoolbox.co.uk and ask for some more bags.
"Can I have a bin to store my bags and cardboard in?" Yes. We have bins of various sizes available. Ring Alex on 0808 178 1088 for details.
"Can I pay a fixed monthly fee by standing order?" If you are likely to produce an average of 3, or more, bags every week, we will suggest a monthly fixed fee to be paid by standing order as this will work out cheaper for you.
"Can I pay by BACS/Internet banking?" Yes. All our invoices show our bank details at the bottom. We are very happy for customers to pay by BACS or Internet Banking.
"Can I pay using my Paypal account?" Yes. Go to our website www.war-on-waste.org and click to the ‘contact us' page and you will see our Paypal button. Just click and follow the instructions.
"Can I pay by credit/debit card over the phone?" We are not currently set up to receive phone payments but this is likely to change soon. Sign onto our emailing list and you will be advised when this changes.
"Can I pay by cheque?" Yes. Our address is shown on all our invoices. However, it is much greener if you pay by BACS, Internet transfer, Paypal or standing order. Also this will use less paper and postage and reduce your bank charges.
"Can I have my invoice sent by E-mail?" We are developing our accounts software so that we can send invoices by E-mail and hope that most customers will opt for this. We will, however, continue to post invoices to those customers who would prefer.
"How long can bags be left on the pavement?" The regulations state that waste should not be left on the public highway for more than 2 hours after 8am or before 6pm. In practice most council enforcement officers allow longer because they know that collectors can sometimes get held up. You will quickly get to know what time we are likely to arrive and when to put your bags out. If you are leaving the bags in a convenient place on your own premises then the time limit does not apply.
"What legal paperwork will I receive?" We will provide you with a signed certificate stating that your business is recycling, contributing to the saving of scarce natural resources, and helping to reduce carbon emissions.
We will also supply you with Duty of Care forms (WTNs) which are the legal documents that detail how you disposed of your waste. You must retain these for a minimum of 2 years. Authorities such as Environmental Protection Officers and Police Officers can demand to see your Waste Transfer Notes at any time. Failure to produce them can result in prosecution. We also keep copies so if you lose one just let us know.
